Reporting from a Chinatown market in Chiang Mai, Thailand, Medicine Hunter Chris Kilham explores the properties and uses of Clitoria ternatea: the butterfly pea. The brilliant blue-purple flower of this Southeast Asian vine is used as a coloring agent in foods and beverages, and is also sold dried as a ready-to-make tea. The butterfly pea has a long history of use in the Ayurvedic system of medicine, and modern research has shown that the plant has antioxidant, hepatoprotective, and antidiabetic properties. Read more >>
