Cynarae folium, artichoke leaf.  

Composition of Drug

Artichoke leaf consists of the fresh or dried leaf of Cynara scolymus L.  [Fam.  Asteraceae], and its preparations in effective dosage.  

The drug contains caffeoylquinic acid derivatives such as cynarin and bitter principles.  

Dyspeptic problems.  

Contraindications

Known allergies to artichokes and other composites.

Obstruction of bile ducts.

In case of gallstones, use only after consultations with a physician.  

Side Effects

None known.

Dosage

Unless otherwise prescribed:Average daily dosage:

  • Drug, 6 g;
  • equivalent preparations.  

Mode of Administration

Dried, cut leaves, pressed juice of fresh plant, and other galenical preparations for internal use.
