Black currant (Ribes nigrum) in the currant or gooseberry family (Grossulariaceae) is a woody shrub with small dark berriesNative to temperate parts of central and northern Europe and northern Asia, black currants are high in Vitamin C and anthocyanins. Traditionally used for fevers, to induce perspiration, and as a diuretic, black currant is being studied for it potential role in preventing chronic diseases.
